Kenneth M. Caldwell, M.D.

Dr. Kenneth M. Caldwell earned his MD degree at the
Medical University of South Carolina. He completed his internship
and residency at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine and North Carolina
Baptist Hospital in Winston Salem, North Carolina. He received
further specialized training during a Sports Medicine Fellowship at the
Hughston Orthopaedic Clinic in Columbus, Georgia. He is a 1979 graduate
of the Citadel which he attended on a full athletic scholarship and
where he has served as a team physician for all sports since1989.
He also has been elected to the Citadel Athletic Hall of Fame.
Over the past decade, Dr. Caldwell’s orthopaedic
training and experience have continued in the latest concepts in elbow
and knee surgery, risk management, medical ethics, and various aspects
of Sports Medicine. He has published articles on the repair of
pelvic, knee, and tibial injuries and has given presentations on knee
and ankle injuries in athletes, knee bracing, and head injury to the
athlete, among other topics. He gained wartime medical experience
during Operation Desert Storm where he served as a battlefield
orthopaedic surgeon during the conflict with Iraq in 1991.
Before, during, and after his medical training, Dr. Caldwell has been
active in youth ministries and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes
(FCA). Dr. Caldwell continues with FCA as a Huddle sponsor at the
Citadel. He presently serves on the Lowcountry Board of the FCA
and has also served at the State Board level.
