in America, Dr. John M. J. Ernst specializes in the
comprehensive
evaluation and treatment of all hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder
disorders. He earned his undergraduate degree in chemical engineering
at Case Institute of Technology at Case Western Reserve University and
his medical degree at the University of Rochester School of Medicine in
New York. After his surgical internship and residency and an
orthopaedic residency at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, Dr.
Ernst completed fellowship training in hand and microvascular surgery
at the renowned Indiana Center for Surgery of the Hand and Upper
Extremity.
Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery
with a Certificate of Added Qualifications in Hand Surgery, Dr. Ernst
is also a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery,
American Society for Surgery of the Hand, and the American Society for
Reconstructive Microsurgery. He joined Orthopaedic Specialists in 1986.
Dr. Ernst has served on the boards of Roper Hospital and
the Medical Society of South Carolina and as chairman of Roper
2000 and the Computer Uses Committee of the American Society for
Surgery of the Hand. A frequent consultant to industry, lecturer,
and course director, he has made numerous presentations at national
conferences on such subjects as carpal tunnel syndrome, industrial
injuries, office ergonomics, shoulder anatomy and pathophysiology, hand
reconstructions and cumulative trauma/overuse syndromes. Dr. Ernst is
also a nationally known expert on the application of computer
technology to medical practice.
